6 Hinsdale High Students Chosen As Presidential Scholar Hopefuls

Four of the students are from Hinsdale Central and two from Hinsdale South.

HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale High School District 86 announced Monday that six of its senors have been named candidates for the 2020 U.S. Presidential Scholars program. Four of them are from Hinsdale Central and two from Hinsdale South.

The students are:

  • Alyssa Lee, Hinsdale Central
  • Daniel Leung, Hinsdale Central
  • Nicholas Lynch, Hinsdale Central
  • Thomas Mercurio, Hinsdale Central
  • Benjamin Metzger, Hinsdale South
  • Habib Rehman, Hinsdale South

The program was established in 1964 to "recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors," according to a school dsitrict news release. It was extended in 1979 to "recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative and performing arts." It was extended again in 2015 to "recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields." Each year, up to 161 students are named Presidential Scholars, which is considered one of the nation's highest honors for high school students.

The school district expects this year's class of scholars will be named in May.
