'Accident Waiting To Happen' In Clarendon Hills: Lawyer
The family's attorney suggested nearby construction may have caused problems at the crossing.
CLARENDON HILLS, IL – A lawyer for the family of the woman who died in Wednesday's train crash in Clarendon Hills said Thursday the intersection where it occurred had problems.
Christina Lopez, 72, of Downers Grove, died in the crash.
At a news conference with the family, attorney Steve Jambois said the family wanted to get the word out about the Prospect Avenue crossing, where the crash occurred. Construction at the intersection may have caused problems, he said.

"That was an accident waiting to happen," he said. "People were in harm's way quite frequently. I know there were numerous residents who have come forward to make complaints to the city."
Asked whether the family would sue, Jambois would not say. He said they wanted to wait for the results of the investigations by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Illinois Commerce Commission. That way, he said, they could weigh "the totality of the circumstances."
