BURR RIDGE, IL – Two people sitting on a bench in downtown Hinsdale were struck by a driver and taken to Hinsdale Hospital early Monday afternoon, according to the village.
Shortly after 1 p.m. on Village Place, an elderly driver backed out of a parking spot, crossed the alley and struck the pair sitting on the bench near a local business, the village said in a news release.
It was a low-speed crash, but both people on the bench were injured, according to the news release. They were taken to the hospital with serious but what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, the village said.
Police said they are investigating, but initial reports indicate the crash was caused by driver error.
"The safety of residents, visitors, and all who come to our Village is a top priority," Village President Greg Hart said in the release. "We will continue to work closely with our public safety officials to review and respond appropriately."
