The last superintendent, whom the board disliked, received a similar-sounding agreement.

HINSDALE, IL – The Hinsdale High School District 86 board is voting Thursday on a "retirement agreement" for Superintendent Michael Lach.

But it is unclear why the board needs such a pact.

Last August, Lach announced he would retire on June 30, serving two years of his three-year contract.

In June 2023, the board approved an agreement with a similar title for the former superintendent, Tammy Prentiss.

That was after a new board majority that was unhappy with Prentiss' performance took office and put her on paid leave days later.

In return for her departure, the board gave Prentiss a year's pay and benefits. The agreement was titled "employment and retirement agreement."

The two sides also agreed not to disparage each other.

The board's president, Catherine Greenspon, did not return a message for comment Tuesday.

The proposed agreement was not included in the board's meeting packet.

In a February email, Greenspon requested that Lach work remotely four days a week. She also limited Lach's duties and asked that he no longer participate in efforts with other top officials.

The changes in Lach's employment were kept secret from the public until Patch reported on them nearly two months later.

On July 1, Chip Pettit, an Indiana superintendent, is set to take District 86's helm.

With Greenspon's permission, Pettit can work on certain issues before he arrives. He makes $1,267 a day.
