The village released a 38-second video of two of the suspects in action.

The car used in the crimes was reported stolen in another town and was later recovered in Chicago, police said.

The suspects intended to find unlocked cars with key fobs inside and then steal the cars, police said.

No vehicles were stolen, but items, including a wallet, were.

In a Facebook post, police urged people to lock their cars. Residents are asked to provide police with video of the suspects.

"We ask residents not to confront anyone, as history has shown that these offenders are frequently armed," police said.
