📰 News we're reading

1. Hinsdale Official Concerned Public Money May Go To Pavilion (patch.com) — Hinsdale trustees have approved a $441,000 contract for a new downtown pavilion in Burlington Park, while one trustee worries taxpayers could still end up footing part of the bill. Village leaders insist private donations will cover costs and say pledges slightly exceed the contract, but concerns remain about potential overruns and whether any village funds might ultimately be needed.

2. Hinsdale District 86 May Curb Openness, Doing Away With Records Log (patch.com) — Hinsdale High School District 86 is considering eliminating its long-standing online log of Freedom of Information Act responses, a move critics say would reduce transparency for local families. Most board members now favor ending the log, even though similar systems remain in place at Hinsdale District 181 and other agencies, and one member questions whether liability concerns outweigh the community's access to records.

3. Hinsdale, Elmhurst Schools Differ On Measuring Performance (patch.com) — Hinsdale High School District 86's new superintendent is changing how Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South are evaluated, comparing them to demographically similar schools instead of each other. The shift, contrasted with Elmhurst's approach, aims to give residents a clearer picture of performance for schools with differing income levels and student populations, especially around standardized test results and expectations.

4. Sale closed in Hinsdale: $2.3 million for a single-family home (shawlocal.com) — A 5,251-square-foot home on Childs Avenue in Hinsdale sold this month for $2.3 million, highlighting the strength of the local luxury market. Nearby recent sales on South Park Avenue and South Garfield Street, all well over $1.6 million, show continued high demand and rising price-per-square-foot for single-family homes in this part of town.

5. High school football results and local scores for the Southland, Aurora, Elgin, Naperville and Lake County (chicagotribune.com) — Hinsdale sports fans can celebrate a strong football win, with Hinsdale Central defeating West Aurora 35-14, while Hinsdale South fell 2-1 to Reavis in tournament play. The roundup also lists dozens of other high school and local college scores from across the region, giving context for how area teams are starting their seasons.
