The New Start program provides brand new kitchens to individuals and families transitioning from shelters to independent housing. Assistance League of Chicagoland West provides dishes, silverware, cookware, bakeware, utensils, and small appliances necessary to completely outfit a kitchen. The total value of a provided kitchen exceeds $400. The New Start program provided 86 kitchens to more than 300 adults, children, and families in our 2014-2015 fiscal year.
Assistance League collaborates with agencies in DuPage County that work to find affordable housing for displaced, low-income individuals. Recipients are identified by the agency. Member volunteers purchase, bundle, and transport the kitchen set to the collaborating agency for distribution.
