Attempted Car Theft In Hinsdale Neighborhood: Police
Police saw a suspicious car, whose driver then sped away, authorities said.
HINSDALE, IL – An attempted car theft took place early Saturday morning in the neighborhood north of the Hinsdale hospital, police said.
About 5 a.m., an officer noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area. The suspects sped away upon seeing the police car, heading south on Interstate 294, police said.
Several hours later, a resident in the same neighborhood reported a car burglary, police said. After reviewing footage on a surveillance system, the resident discovered the crime occurred just before the police department's encounter with the suspects.

Such suspects typically stroll through neighborhoods in the middle of the night, searching for unlocked cars to rummage through, police said. They want to find cars with key fobs inside.
Police advise residents to lock their car doors and remove key fobs every night.

"It is important to note that offenders in these incidents may be armed," the police department said. "In this recent case, one suspect appeared to be concealing an object, likely a firearm, under his clothing."
