Burglar Spotted, House Ransacked: Hinsdale Cops
A man was seen trying to break into an occupied house, police say. He ran away once he knew someone was inside.
HINSDALE, IL — In the last few days, Hinsdale police handled cases involving attempted break-ins, thefts, identity theft and a hit-and-run crash. Here is information from the latest Hinsdale police reports:
Attempted break-ins
- A man attempted to open a resident's back door about 10 a.m. Thursday in the 400 block of West Eighth Place. The man ran away when he saw that the resident was home. The man was described as having tanned skin, in his 30s or 40, and wearing a khaki-colored windbreaker, blue jeans and dark rimmed glasses. The case is pending.
- A house in the 700 block of North Elm Street was burglarized between 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday. The resident reported damage to her front door and door jamb that was consistent with being kicked in.
Thefts

- Jewelry and a coin valued at $8,500 were stolen between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of East Walnut Street. The resident had contractors in the house during the time frame the items went missing. The case is pending.
- A house in the 300 block of Fuller Road was burglarized between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21. Someone forced entry through the front door and ransacked a bedroom and a home office. Watches and jewelry were stolen. The case is pending.
Identity theft
- A resident in the 600 block of Franklin Street informed police of unauthorized transactions on her bank account totaling $494 between Sept. 14 and Sept. 23.

- A car in the 200 block of West Ninth Street was damaged in a hit-and-run crash between noon and 6 pm. Sept. 20. The car was parked in the street. White paint and silver paint particles were seen on the damaged car.
