A Burr Ridge woman was arrested after throwing her cat inside a carrier at an employee, police said.

HINSDALE, IL – A cat named Nimbus became the subject of a dispute last week at the Hinsdale Humane Society shelter, police said.

The incident resulted in the arrest of a woman from Burr Ridge, who faces misdemeanor battery charges, police said.

On Saturday afternoon, the woman showed up at the shelter with Nimbus, which she got from the Humane Society in June 2020, according to the report. But the woman, who developed an allergy to Nimbus, wanted to return the cat, police said.

A shelter employee told the woman that she needed to make an appointment before returning the cat, the report said. The woman became upset and struck the employee in the face, although the woman said she pushed the worker in the chest area, police said.

The woman told the employee, "F--- you," and threw the carrier with the cat inside at the worker, the report said.

The woman then said she would leave the cat inside the main vestibule of the Humane Society, police said. She was told she couldn't do that.

Outside the shelter, the woman threatened to throw the cat into a creek because the Humane Society wouldn't take it back, police said.

Police were called. They arrested the woman and released her on bond.

Nimbus stayed at the shelter, and he was adopted out earlier this week.
