Checks Stolen From Hinsdale Mailboxes: Police
In another case, a local house was ransacked in a burglary, cops say.
HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale police released their latest blotter Wednesday. Here is information from the reports:
- A resident in the 200 block of Elmwood Place told police that someone stole a check from her mailbox and altered the payee information. The suspect cashed the $900 check. The incident happened between 9 a.m. Oct. 11 and noon Oct. 12. Two blocks away, a resident in the 5500 block of South Elm Street reported that a check was stolen from her mailbox and the payee information was changed. The suspect cashed the $1,400 check. The theft happened between 8 a.m. Oct. 12 and noon Oct. 13. The cases are pending.
- A house in the 200 block of East Hickory Street was burglarized about 6 p.m. Saturday. Alerted by a burglar alarm, police found that someone forced entry through a front door. The person ransacked dressers and bedroom closets. The victims were not home at the time of the burglary. The case is pending.
- Someone tried to burglarize a house in the 100 block of South Oak Street between 3:30 p.m. Oct. 13 and 1:30 p.m. Oct. 14. A postal carrier noticed pry marks on the home's door and called police. The victim was not home during the timeframe of the attempted burglary.
- A person in the 10 block of East First Street told police that someone stole her credit card, debit card and $80 from her purse Saturday. The person reported a fraudulent charge of $2,526.
