CHMS Students Present "Call to Action" Issues

Clarendon Hills Middle School 7th graders recently presented "Call to Action" position reports on current issues.

Seventh grade language arts and social studies teachers at Clarendon Hills Middle School recently created a co-curricular unit focusing on current pressing issues, research skills, argumentative techniques, speaking, and writing. At "Call to Action 2016," students displayed on poster boards and discussed a chosen issue, research findings, opinions, and "Call to Action" suggestions. Each student's goal was to draw in an audience (CHMS parents), share his/her views, and argue for a particular action. Social studies lessons helped provide students with needed background knowledge on issues they reviewed, which ranged from climate change and homeschooling to racial profiling and the use of drones.
