Civics Class Going Away In Hinsdale 86?

Critical race theory foe says it's being proposed. He provides no evidence.

HINSDALE, IL — A Hinsdale resident who contends Hinsdale High School District 86 is promoting critical race theory says that effort includes a proposal to do away with civics classes.

Resident Andrew Catton made his arguments in written comments submitted to the school board for its meeting last week. He said the district was pushing critical race theory.

"When will the board address this with the community before it is too late?" he asked. "It's already been proposed to remove American civics classes as part of your 'equity' in curriculum," he said.

But he provided no evidence of such a proposal.

Asked about Catton's assertion, district spokesman Chris Jasculca said in an email to Patch, "There are no plans to remove or revise our existing civics class. In addition, civics has been a graduation requirement in Illinois since 2015. Furthermore, critical race theory is not being taught in any of our classes."
