Clarendon Hills Agency To Attack Mosquitos
The village notes the presence of West Nile virus. A mosquito spraying operation is planned.
CLARENDON HILLS, IL – Not many places have their own government body whose sole purpose is to attack mosquitos.
Clarendon Hills is one such place. It is served by the Clarendon Blackhawk Mosquito Abatement District, which was formed in 1968.
On Tuesday, the village government announced that the district would be "utilizing contingency adult mosquito control measures," weather permitting, from 7:30 p.m. Thursday to 12:30 a.m. Friday. A truck is set to spray insecticide.

According to a village news release, the presence of West Nile virus levels in adult mosquito populations has reached the level where transmission to humans is likely.
The species of mosquito in question is not an aggressive biter and its presence often goes undetected, the news release said.

The village said the district has been aggressive in controlling mosquito development while in their larval stage. Larval control operations have been ongoing since early May and are set to continue through October, according to the news release.
The district's expenditures totaled about $24,000 in the 2021 budget year, according to the Illinois comptroller's website.
Illinois has about 7,000 local government bodies, far more than any other state, even those much larger in population.
