Clarendon Hills Middle School 7th Graders Engage in Day of Service
The seventh grade students of Clarendon Hills Middle School recently engaged in field trips to conduct a variety of service projects.
The seventh grade students of Clarendon Hills Middle School recently engaged in their first service-related field trip. CHMS staff say the idea came from discussions in class during which students shared their previous service experiences.
"Their level of involvement with the community and desire and willingness to do more convinced us that the current seventh graders would embrace a trip with a service-related theme," said Jamie Guerin, seventh grade teacher and one of the trip coordinators.
Students chose from field trip options that included playing games with the senior residents of a local nursing home, shelving books at local libraries and working with preschoolers, packing meals at Feed My Starving Children, reading to younger students at their elementary school neighbors also in Community Consolidated School District 181, and visiting a Ronald McDonald House to plant flowers and prepare meals for families.

"We received quite a bit of positive feedback from students about the trip," Guerin notes. "They were excellent representatives of CHMS at their various service locations and seemed to really enjoy the day."
