CLARENDON HILLS, IL – A Clarendon Hills trustee's lateness to a meeting Monday night indicated a larger traffic problem, officials said.

Trustee Elizabeth O'Connell arrived several minutes after the meeting time. The trustees waited to start until she arrived at Christ Lutheran Church, where the meeting was held.

She told the trustees that the railroad gates had been down for longer than needed downtown.

Others agreed that the gates had an issue. A resident informed the Village Board that a fire engine earlier that day was further delayed as a result.

Village President Eric Tech agreed it was a problem.

"I've been impacted by that several times recently," he said.

He said the village is reaching out to the railroad about it.

Trustee John Weicher said he had encountered the issue as well, saying the gates' timing appeared to be off.
