Clarendon Hills Sees 17% Jump In Cases

Hinsdale records 10% increase, which is similar to nearby suburbs.

HINSDALE, IL — Clarendon Hills saw a 17 percent hike in coronavirus cases in the last week, while Hinsdale experienced a 10 percent increase, which was similar to nearby towns, according to county health authorities.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had seen 805 coronavirus cases since the pandemic's beginning, up by 70 from a week earlier. The number of Hinsdale cases is more than double that of early October.

Meanwhile, Clarendon Hills reached 449 on Sunday, up 65 from a week before. The total number of cases is 160 percent more than that of early October.

The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had 44 deaths as a result of the coronavirus, up two from a week earlier, according to county agencies. In Clarendon Hills, the number of virus-related deaths doubled to four. Until last week, the number of deaths in both towns had remained the same for weeks. Hinsdale's number is largely driven by a coronavirus outbreak at ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home earlier in the crisis.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had 45.6 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 40.4 in La Grange Park, 44.2 in Darien, 46.8 in Western Springs, 52.1 in Elmhurst, 52.3 in Clarendon Hills and DuPage County, 56.9 in suburban Cook County, 57.1 in Burr Ridge and 62.7 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 787,573, up 9.2 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 13,255 state residents.

Nationally, 14.5 million people have caught the virus, up 10 percent from the week before. A total of 280,135 people have died from the virus in the United States.
