Clarendon Hills Staff Poised To Get Raises

The village staff says employees' pay has fallen below market levels.

CLARENDON HILLS, IL — Clarendon Hills employees' pay has fallen below market levels, so the village staff is recommending raises for next year, a village memo says.

On Monday, the Village Board is set to vote on the proposed hikes.

In 2012, the Village Board decided to start setting pay based on attracting and keeping the best employees, according to a village memo last month. The plan applied to non-union staff.

The system required a survey of comparable towns every two years, so village positions could be competitive with the market, the memo said. The surveyed towns are Burr Ridge, Flossmoor, La Grange Park, Riverside, Willowbrook and Winfield, the same communities used for the police union contract.

Earlier this fall, Clarendon Hills found that its pay ranges fell below the market median for most village positions, according to the memo. As a result, staff is recommending a 3 percent increase to all ranges for non-union employees next year.

"Given the economic uncertainty, staff is recommending reconducting the (market) study next summer in order to provide up-to-date statistics," the memo said.

The 2012 plan eliminated cost-of-living adjustments in favor of merit-based pay hikes. The proposed budget for 2022 includes merit increases of up to 5 percent, the memo said.
