Coronavirus Overruns Hinsdale Facility
An overwhelming majority of the nursing home's residents are being treated for the coronavirus or have recovered from it.

HINSDALE, IL — Of ManorCare of Hinsdale's 101 residents, 85 percent are being treated or have recovered from the coronavirus, according to the nursing home's latest numbers.
Since the pandemic began, a total of 130 residents have been identified as having the coronavirus at ManorCare, 600 Ogden Ave. In addition to the residents, 33 employees have also had the virus. That totals 163 people in all as well as 24 deaths, according to last Friday's report from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Now, 66 residents, or nearly two-thirds, are being treated for the coronavirus at ManorCare and another 20 have recovered, said Julie Beckert, the spokeswoman for ProMedica, the nonprofit that owns ManorCare. Others are in the hospital.

ProMedica is a chain of 168 nursing homes and 54 assisted living facilities around the country, she said.
ManorCare is among a number of facilities in the chain with dire situations with the virus, Beckert said.
"We depend on communities to observe social distancing and masking. This protects seniors in our facilities and protects our employees coming into our buildings," Beckert said. "We all need to be conscientious on how we do things."
ProMedica's nursing homes bar unauthorized visitors and require masking and hand hygiene, among other measures, Beckert said.
ManorCare is licensed for 202 beds, but like most facilities, it has fewer actually available — 184.
According to the Medicare website, ManorCare is rated as average overall. It is rated as above average in staffing and below average in both health inspections and quality measures.
