D-181 Canceling Extracurricular Events
Coronavirus prompted the school district's decision. The district has no confirmed cases of the virus.
CLARENDON HILLS, IL — Community Consolidated School District 181 is canceling extracurricular events starting Thursday because of the spread of the coronavirus, the district announced in a news release late Wednesday afternoon. The district said it would re-evaluate its decision on March 19, based on the latest information from health agencies.
In the release, the district said it is taking the action "out of the utmost caution and care" for students. It said the district has no confirmed cases of the virus among its students and staff.
Extracurricular events are activities including but not limited to after-school activities, field trips, daytime performances and parent events in classrooms, parent volunteer opportunities, band and orchestra, athletics, and clubs, according to the news release. This does not include before and after-school care provided by The Community House at the district's schools or off-campus PTO events.

"As you know, we have been preparing for a variety of scenarios through our inter-agency coordination with local, state, and federal health authorities. The DuPage County Health Department supports our decision to cancel activities in an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19," the news release said.
Because there are no confirmed cases in District 181, the health department had made no recommendation to cancel daily operations, the district said.
