D-86 Coronavirus: What About Prom and Graduation?
Hinsdale Central and South are looking at ways to continue traditions.
HINSDALE, IL — Like their counterparts elsewhere, seniors at Hinsdale Central and South high schools look forward to certain rites of passage, but the traditions may not happen this year because of the coronavirus.
In a mass email Monday, District 86 Superintendent Tammy Prentiss said she recognized the disappointment of seniors.
"You have spent the past three years working hard to reach what should have been the culmination and celebration of your high school careers," Prentiss said. "Instead, you have been left to wonder what will happen with annual rites of passage such as prom, graduation and getting out of school early."

She said she was sorry the second half of the year was not what seniors wished or planned for. But she promised the district is working on potential solutions "that may allow us to proceed with these traditions in some form or fashion."
The district, Prentiss said, would allow students to weigh in on solutions whenever possible. The district, for instance, is conducting a survey to get seniors' thoughts about options for graduation.
