D-86 Student May Have Been Exposed To Coronavirus

District says it will make decision by no later than 5 a.m. Thursday on the status of school at South and Central.

HINSDALE, IL — A Hinsdale South High School student may have been exposed to the coronavirus, school district officials announced in a statement Wednesday night. This information was learned late in the afternoon. At this time, the family is waiting to get results of the test for their child, the school said.

"While we hope to have an update regarding this situation soon, we will make a final decision about the status of school by no later than 5 a.m. tomorrow," the statement said.

School District 86 spokesman Chris Jasculca confirmed that whatever decision the district makes could affect Hinsdale Central High School as well.

With little notice, the District 86 school board held an emergency meeting about the coronavirus at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Late in the afternoon, District 181, which serves elementary and middle school students in Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills, announced it was canceling extracurricular events for the time being because of the virus. It said it would re-evaluate its decision next Thursday. District 181 said it has no confirmed coronavirus cases among students and staff.

Meanwhile, Elmhurst School District 205 is suspending field trips until further notice.
