D181 Student Art Exhibit to Be Displayed May 1-5 at The Community House

The District 181 Foundation and The Community House's Ly Hotchkin Arts Program are partnering together to jointly host a student art exhibit

The District 181 Foundation and The Community House's Ly Hotchkin Arts Program are partnering together to jointly host an exhibit of artwork created by students in kindergarten through eighth grade from Community Consolidated School District 181. More than 100 pieces will be on display at The Community House beginning Monday, May 1 at 12:00 p.m. and daily from 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. through Friday, May 5 when it closes at 12:00 p.m. The exhibit will include two-dimensional pieces, three-dimensional sculptures, and computer animation displays.

The Community House Executive Director Jenifer Fabian notes that the success of last year’s inaugural event supported the decision to host the 2nd Annual District 181 Art Show. "The Community House is proud to sponsor this event again as the student, parent, and community participation last year was overwhelming. And this year, many of the exhibits will be shown in our newly remodeled facilities which support our expanded arts offerings under the direction of Jimmy McDermott, Arts Program Director." Fabian notes that The Community House has expanded local arts offerings for all ages through the program. "We seek to inspire and enrich the cultural life of the whole community, and we are delighted to showcase the art of local students as we share a mutual goal to see the arts flourish within the local community.”

Meg Cooper, Executive Director of the D181 Foundation notes, " The District 181 Foundation is proud to be involved in organizing the District 181 Student Art Exhibit and to host the reception honoring the student artists. The talent, thoughtfulness, and creativity we see in the art being displayed is truly impressive. It convinces us of the importance of the arts in the school curriculum, and we are pleased to do our small part in encouraging students to continue to express themselves through the visual arts."
