A Clarendon Hills Middle School student finished in the top 50 and the Hinsdale Middle School team placed in the top 30 at the Illinois State MATHCOUNTS competition in Lisle earlier this month.
Alex Yang took 42nd among all individuals at the competition that features not only speed and accuracy, but also problem-solving and mathematical reasoning.
Hinsdale Middle School’s Kevin Zhang, Alex Jiang, Saint Luan and Sam Chung combined to finish 27th in the team category.

The event is sponsored by the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers (ISPE) Foundation.
The MATHCOUNTS Foundation is a non-profit organization charged with engaging middle school students of all abilities and interest levels in “fun, challenging math programs designed to expand their academic and professional opportunities.”
