Dentist Gives Back To Veterans

Clarendon Hills' Dr. Ron Goers offered free dental services and treatments for veterans as a way to give back.

How does a dental practice say, “Thank You,” to Veterans? Goers Dental Care in Darien has figured out a way. Dr. Ron Goers, of Clarendon Hills, recently participated in Freedom Day USA, a national event for businesses to show appreciation for the sacrifices made by military personnel and their families.

On Freedom Day, the dentists and staff of Goers Dental Care offered free services and treatments for veterans, Active service people and their immediate families. There were no strings attached.

"Freedom Day has personal meaning for me," said practice owner Ron Goers, D.D.S. "My dad served in World War II, and my brother, too, was part of the military. To be able to express gratitude in this way means a great deal to me and to the entire staff at Goers Dental Care."

Goers' staff members have personal reasons, too. Nance’s husband Daniel of Lockport is a Captain in the United States Navy serving his 28th year; he has served all over the world on land and sea. Tanya Arnold's husband Jeremiah of Oswego served four years as a specialist in the U.S. Army, with two deployments - Iraq and Afghanistan.

Freedom Day began in September 2013 after Dr. Robert Martino realized that not enough appreciation is shown to those who sacrifice so much. Freedom Day USA started in Bridgeport, West Virginia, and has gained national attention including being mentioned on the O’Reilly Factor and a shout out by Chuck Norris. Countless newspapers have covered the event which has grown to include businesses including dental, chiropractic, automotive, retailers and independent sales people who all provide free goods and services to military personnel and their families. Businesses across the country are participating.

“Our men and women of our Armed Forces make great personal sacrifices to secure and protect our freedoms,” Dr. Martino said. “Their families have endured hardships, and some have given all they have so that we may live in peace and are free to pursue our dreams."
