Developer Pulls Controversial Hinsdale Proposal
The company planned a retiree development, but neighbors objected, citing density and traffic.

HINSDALE, IL – A developer planning a retiree complex in Hinsdale has pulled the proposal in the face of neighbors' opposition, an official said last week.
In 2020, Minneapolis-based Ryan Companies presented its first proposal for the local site of the Texas-based Institute in Basic Life Principles, which plans to sell the property. It is at Ogden Avenue and Adams Street.
In February, the company released its latest plan, which called for 200 units, down from its original 267. And in March, Village President Tom Cauley explained why he did not believe Hinsdale could get a better deal for the property than Ryan's newest plan.

Last week, Cauley announced the withdrawal of the proposal.
"I made clear to Ryan Companies that if they come back with another proposal, they should first touch base with residents and determine whether the residents abutting the IBLP property and in the general area have issues with their new application," Cauley said. "They haven't told me whether they're going to have a new application."

Ryan Companies couldn't be reached for immediate comment.
Neighbors have said the development would be too dense and increase traffic.
On another part of the institute's property, Burr Ridge-based McNaughton Development has proposed houses, but its plan received criticism from the board last year. McNaughton's owner said he would consider offering a new plan.
