Disabled Access An Issue At Hinsdale Central

The principal promises to make sure access button is working at school. Problem will "never, ever happen again," he says.

HINSDALE, IL — The principal of Hinsdale Central High School made a firm promise Thursday: He would make sure the door access button for those with disabilities works. Principal Bill Walsh made that statement after a resident in a wheelchair spoke about the problem during public input at a meeting of the Hinsdale High School District 86 board.

School district resident Richard Morton said he spoke about the problem with the button a few weeks ago.

"The disabled door access button is again inoperative," he said. "I would appreciate if we could look into that and get a permanent fix."

Walsh appeared to take the concern to heart.

"As a parent of a child in a wheelchair, I am appalled that our doorknob was not open or accessible or the access button was not accessible. I have already addressed this in a tone that I felt was appropriate," Walsh said. "I will be addressing it again in person tomorrow, and it will never, ever happen again."
