District 86 Approves New Hinsdale South Principal

HINSDALE, IL — The Hinsdale Township High School District 86 Board of Education approved the appointment of Arwen Pokorny Lyp as the Principal of Hinsdale South High School effective July 1. The district said Pokorny Lyp currently serves as the Assistant Principal for Curriculum & Instruction at South, a position she has held since 2007.

“I am honored and humbled to serve as Hinsdale South’s Principal,” Pokorny Lyp said in a release. “I am excited to build upon the collaborative relationships I have cultivated over the last 10 years with the Hinsdale South community as we continue to constantly improve the learning experiences for all students. I look forward to working directly with our students to ensure their voices are heard in making their student experience meaningful, leading our staff toward ensuring we continue to offer rigorous curriculum in a nationally ranked high school, and providing students with the social and emotional learning skills needed to be productive and happy citizens.”

“We welcome Arwen to her new role knowing that her curriculum and instruction background will provide an excellent foundation for her leadership at South,” Superintendent Dr. Bruce Law said in a release. “The positive relationships she has with our school families and staff will enable her to truly engage with the Hinsdale South community to articulate a vision of learning that reflects the aspirations of students, families and teachers. Arwen is a proud and ardent supporter of Hinsdale South and we look forward to working with her as principal.”

According to a release, Pokorny Lyp began her career at Joliet Township High School District 204 as a social studies teacher at Joliet West High School, moving into several administrative positions including Humanities Division Chairperson and District Curriculum Director. In addition to her role as Assistant Principal at Hinsdale South, Pokorny Lyp currently serves as the District 86 Director of Assessment and Evaluation, overseeing the standardized testing program for students as well as the teacher evaluation system. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Master of Arts in educational leadership from Chicago State University.

The district said Pokorny Lyp lives in Woodridge with her husband and three sons.
