Salute to Veterans at The Birches Assisted Living

A “Salute to Veterans” will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at The Birches Assisted Living, 215 55th St., Clarendon Hills. Veterans who live at The Birches will be recognized at a gathering that will include hors d'oeuvres and patriotic music.

The Birches’ veterans are:

• Thomas Cahill - Navy
• Earl Dover - Army
• Henry Sledz - Army Air Corp
• Mike Meier - Navy
• Don Myers - Army
• George Smith - Army
• Ray Lifka - Navy
• Don Husch - Air Force
• Edward Kedzuch - Army
• Guido Pertile - Army
• Lawrence Eck - Army

In 1919 President Woodrow Wilson declared Nov. 11th as Armistice Day in order to honor the soldiers of World War I which, at the time, people believed was the “war to end all wars”. As more wars occurred, however, the name was changed to Veteran’s Day so all veterans would be included.

The Birches Assisted Living is dedicated to providing caring and professional assisted living services that assure its residents safety, security and comfort. Located in Clarendon Hills, The Birches offers a full calendar of programs and activities designed to promote a stimulating and rewarding retirement lifestyle.

The event is free and open to the public. Space is limited, so reservations are requested. Call Carol Weigel at 630-789-1135 or go to: http://www.birches.net/.
