Ex-Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Superintendent Retiring In Mokena

Hinsdale board approved separation agreement with White in 2017.

HINSDALE, IL — The former superintendent of Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181, who entered a separation agreement with the school board in December 2017, is retiring from his current employer, Mokena-based District 159.

Don White was voted out of his job by the Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills school board after errors were made in the publishing of a legal notice about a new middle school referendum. White was accused of not informing the board of education about the errors. In December 2017, the board approved White's separation, which included a severance package. He was allowed to serve through the end of the school year.

At District 159, White will be retiring at the end of the current school year. At the Nov. 20 District 159 board of education meeting, White shared his resignation letter with the board. He is the former superintendent of Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181.

In his letter to the District 159 board, White said his last day will be June 30, 2020.

"It has been my true honor to serve as a public school district superintendent for 19 years and as an educator for 33 years; with the last two years being a joyous capstone," White wrote in his letter to the board.

He thanked the board members, administrators district office staff, teachers and support employees for their dedication and work.

"I will leave on June 30 knowing that the most important work occurs in the halls and classrooms of the schools – and it cannot happen without adults who are willing to build positive relationships with all, can face every challenge the community or society offers, and have a love for what is most important, the children we serve," White wrote.
