Fake Bail Bondsman Scams Hinsdale Resident: Cops

The suspect lied to the resident that a loved one was in trouble, police said.

HINSDALE, IL – A Hinsdale resident was scammed out of thousands of dollars last week after being told that a loved one was in trouble with the law, police said.

On Thursday morning, a stranger called the resident and pretended to be a family member needing money to post bond because of an arrest, according to a Hinsdale police report.

The resident, who lives in the 1400 block of Burr Oak Court, met with the suspect, who claimed to be a bail bondsman and gave him $9,400, police said.

Here is information from other police reports:

  • A person made a fraudulent credit card purchase of $366 for car parts March 15 at Land Rover Hinsdale, 336 E. Ogden Ave. The incident was reported March 29. The case is pending.
  • Edwin Gamble, 38, of Riverdale, was cited about 1 a.m. March 30 at Interstate 294 and Ogden Avenue on a Cook County warrant and charges of felony driving with a revoked license and operating an uninsured vehicle. He was taken to the Cook County Jail.
  • Kate M. Kolodzik, 37, of Des Plaines, was cited about 8 p.m. Friday at Walgreens, 15 Grant Square, on a charge of retail theft. She is accused of stealing miscellaneous personal items totaling about $100. She was released and given a date to appear in court.
  • Martin J. Lamar, 30, of Hillside, was arrested about 2:30 a.m. Saturday at Route 83 and Ogden Avenue on a DuPage County warrant. He also was cited on a charge of speeding. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
  • Ethan G. Lanoff, 31, of Lincolnwood, was arrested about 2 a.m. Sunday at Route 83 and Ogden Avenue on charges on DUI, speeding and improper lane usage. He submitted to testing that indicated he was over the legal limit. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
