Fake Phone, Dog Bite: Hinsdale Cops
A man pays nearly $700 for what he believed to be an iPhone, police said.
HINSDALE, IL — In the last few days, Hinsdale police handled cases involving a fake iPhone transaction, a dog bite, credit card fraud, illegal drugs found at the hospital, eggings, DUIs and an arrest warrant. Here is information from the latest Hinsdale police reports:
Fake phone
- A man bought an item that he believed was an iPhone from a person he met on the Facebook Marketplace. The man discovered the iPhone was fake after he gave the suspect $680 and parted ways. The transaction happened at 7 p.m. Dec. 21 in the McDonald's parking lot, 935 N. York Road.
Dog bite

- A woman was bitten by a dog while she was walking on a sidewalk about noon Dec. 22 in the 10 block of Salt Creek Lane. The dog was on a leash being walked by a dog walker.
Credit card fraud
- A known suspect used another person's credit card to buy $3,664 in vehicle parts at Land Rover Hinsdale, 336 E. Ogden Ave., between Dec. 16 and Dec. 28.
Drugs found

- Employees at the Hinsdale hospital found a baggie containing a white powdery substance in a patient's possession about 11 a.m. Dec. 20. It field tested positive for amphetamine. Charges are pending lab results.
Eggings
- A house in the 100 block of Minneola Street and car parked near Washington Street and Washington Circle were egged overnight Saturday.
DUIs
- Suleyma Ortiz, 22, of Chicago, was arrested about 11:30 p.m. Saturday at Ogden Avenue and Oak Street on charges of DUI, driving an uninsured vehicle, transportation of open alcohol by a driver, speeding and improper lane use. An open container of tequila was found in the car. The suspect refused testing to determine blood-alcohol content. She was released and given a date to appear in court.
- Stephen J. Tavakkoly, 31, of Oak Brook Terrace, was arrested about 8 p.m. Dec. 20 at Ogden Avenue and Interstate 294 on charges of DUI and speeding. He submitted to testing that indicated he was over the legal limit. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
Warrant
- Charles J. Parise, 24, of Downers Grove, was arrested about 11 p.m. Wednesday at 55th Street and Route 83 on a Will County warrant. He was stopped after an inquiry on his vehicle registration. He was taken to the Will County Jail.
Obstructing ID
- Joaquin N. Porter, 20, of Rochelle, was cited about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at 55th Street and Route 83 on charges of obstructing identification, driving with a suspended license and driving an uninsured vehicle. According to a police report, Porter gave a false name and birthdate when asked for identification. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
