Fewer Hinsdale Traffic Tickets In Recent Years: Stats
In Clarendon Hills, police issued a historically high number of citations in 2024.

HINSDALE, IL – Other police departments have seen ups and downs in their traffic stop numbers through the years.
That hasn't been the case in Hinsdale, where the number has stayed about the same over the last couple of decades. But police are issuing fewer tickets.
Meanwhile, Clarendon Hills conducted a historically high number of stops in 2024.

This week, Patch examined the traffic stop reports in Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills, as well as Elmhurst, La Grange, Burr Ridge, Darien and Western Springs. The state mandates annual reports.
The latest data is from 2024. In that year, Hinsdale police conducted 4,563 traffic stops, which works out to more than a dozen a day.

In all but a couple of years, Hinsdale's annual number of stops has ranged from about 4,000 to 6,000 since 2004. The low was 3,645 in 2020, when the pandemic prompted drops in traffic enforcement around the state.
Until the last few years, the percentage of stops resulting in tickets has ranged from 40 percent to 57 percent.
In 2021, the rate fell to 38 percent. It was 34 percent in 2024.
In Clarendon Hills, which is about half the size of Hinsdale, police reported 2,515 traffic stops in 2024, amounting to seven a day.
That was a big jump from the previous four years, with the numbers ranging from 598 to 997.
In 2019, the year before the pandemic, police made nearly 2,000 stops.
Over the last couple of decades, only two years have been higher than 2024 – 2,845 in 2004 and 2,881 in 2009.
In 2024, Clarendon Hills officers ticketed drivers during nearly a third of stops. In the pre-pandemic years, about half led to citations.
