Former Hinsdale Central Teacher Charged with Sexual Assault, Sexual Abuse

A former Hinsdale Central teacher was arrested and charged Friday with one count of criminal sexual assault and three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office.
James Bryla, age 29, is accused of abuse that allegedly took place in April 2011, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin told Bruce Law, superintendent of Hinsdale Township High School District 86.
Inappropriate contact between Bryla and an alleged victim was reported to Hinsdale police in Dec. 2014. Police and the DuPage County Children’s Center investigated the incident, Law said.

Law said Bryla was placed on leave in Dec. 2014 for a different incident, after student had reported inappropriate communication between another student and a teacher. Bryla resigned his position, and the administration filed a report with the police and the Department of Children and Family Services.
Bryla is held in lieu of $300,000 bail.
