CLARENDON HILLS, IL — A man was arrested after a brief pursuit in Clarendon Hills on Sunday after he and two other men ran away from police, according to a DuPage County State's Attorney's Office news release.

About 7:30 a.m., police received a call about suspicious people near Holmes and Harris. When they arrived, they saw three men who ran away from them. One of the men threw a loaded 9mm pistol with an extended 30-round magazine at the officers, according to prosecutors.

“It is alleged that Mr. Mayers, a convicted felon currently on probation out of Cook County for unlawful use of a weapon, was in possession of a loaded weapon with a 30-round extended magazine,” State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in the news release. “Mr. Mayers’ violent past actions, however, prohibit him from being in possession of any firearm, let alone one with an extended magazine. I would like to commend the Clarendon Hills Police Department for their quick response and apprehension of the defendant in this case."

In the release, .Clarendon Hills Police Chief Paul Dalen said it was important that residents called in the suspicious activity. Their vigilance, he said, resulted in the arrest.
