HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale Central High School plans to start filling its new state-of-the-art pool Friday, Aug. 6, an official said last week. The filling is expected to last through the weekend.

During the filling, the district's construction camera will continue to be in operation, so the public can watch, the school said.

During last week's school board meeting, Superintendent Tammy Prentiss informed members of the pool's timeline. She said the district would hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 20 "if the stars online."

Patch asked the district's spokesman, Chris Jasculca, about when students could start using the pool.

"In terms of access, we anticipate the first jump in the pool will occur on Aug. 20 based on the time and process involved in ensuring that the chemical levels in the water are safe for use," he said in an email.

Over the next year, construction is taking place for a new Hinsdale South pool.

Both Central's and South's pools were originally set to be six lanes, 25 yards long. Central's was moved up to 10 lanes, 40 yards long. South's is staying at six lanes, but will also be extended 40 yards.

The pools are being paid from the proceeds of a $140 million bond referendum that voters approved in April 2019.
