Hinsdale Central Students Awarded National Merit Scholarships

Six Hinsdale Central students have been awarded college-sponsored National Merit Scholarships.

HINSDALE, IL — Six Hinsdale Central students have been awarded college-sponsored National Merit Scholarships. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced approximately 3,500 winners of National Merit scholarships sponsored by colleges and universities. According to the organization, officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the Finalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution.

The Hinsdale Central students are:

  • Zaid Peracha, of Burr Ridge. Probable career field: undecided. Peracha was awarded the National Merit Loyola University Chicago Scholarship.
  • Sophia Horowicz, of Hinsdale. Probable career field of Biological Engineering. Horowicz was awarded the National Merit University of Chicago Scholarship.
  • David Jin, of Hinsdale. Probable career field of Computer Science. Jin was awarded the National Merit Northwestern University Scholarship.
  • Davis Miller, of Hinsdale. Probable career field of Mechanical Engineering. Miller was awarded the National Merit Northwestern University Scholarship.
  • Molliana Rose Schwarz, of Clarendon Hills. Probable career field: nursing. Schwarz was awarded the National Merit Villanova University Scholarship.
  • Craig McLaughlin, of Oak Brook. Probable career field of economics. McLaughlin was awarded the National Merit Vanderbilt University Scholarship.

These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship, according to the organization. Sponsor colleges and universities include 100 private and 78 public institutions located in 44 states and the District of Columbia.
