Hinsdale Chase Suspect Gets 20 Years In Prison
The man ran with a loaded gun near Hinsdale houses, police said. He was blocks away from an elementary school.

OAK BROOK, IL – A Chicago man who led officers on a chase into a Hinsdale neighborhood was sentenced last week to 20 years in prison, prosecutors announced.
Kevonta Robinson, 21, pleaded guilty to a felony count of armed violence. He has been in the DuPage County Jail since the 2021 chase, with his bond set at $1 million.
During the afternoon of Sept. 27, 2021, a state police officer saw a speeding 2016 Honda CRV traveling west on Interstate 290 near Mannheim Road, prosecutors said. The officer learned the Honda was carjacked in Cook County earlier that day and involved in two armed robberies, prosecutors said.

The officer tried to stop the driver, later identified as Robinson, but the suspect continued, police said. He then went onto southbound Interstate 294 and west on Ogden Avenue, entering Hinsdale and driving into oncoming traffic, police said. He also was accused of running a red light at Ogden and Oak Street.
Robinson then headed south on Oak and stopped near Oak and Fuller Road, where he got out and ran away, police said. He hid in an open garage on Oak and was captured, police said.

During an investigation, officers found a loaded Beretta 9 mm pistol with one bullet in the chamber in a backyard that he is believed to have passed through, police said.
"With a complete disregard for public safety and in a stolen vehicle, Mr. Robinson led police on a high-speed chase in the middle of the afternoon just blocks from a grammar school," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release. "To compound matters, in an attempt to avoid capture, Mr. Robinson fled on foot, running from the police through a residential neighborhood with a loaded weapon, again in the middle of the afternoon."
