Hinsdale Church Victim Of Fraud: Cops

A person posing as a church employee requested a change to bank account information, police said.

HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale police released their latest blotter Wednesday. Here is information from the reports:

Fraud

  • Union Church of Hinsdale, 137 S. Garfield Ave., told police Thursday that a suspect claiming to be a church employee emailed a request to change bank account information for direct deposit. A loss of $2,532 was reported. The case is pending.
  • A resident in the 200 block of Racquet Club Court told police Monday that someone cashed a fraudulent check against the resident's bank account. A loss of $4,000 was reported. The case is pending.
  • AKAT Scrap Metal, 15 Spinning Wheel Road, reported a fraudulent check was made against the business checking account Feb. 11. The company reported the fraud March 8.

  • Police were told about a suspect who fled from Villa Park police in a stolen car. Officers located the suspect in the 500 block of West 55th Street. The suspect fled from police trying to stop him. The suspect later crashed in North Riverside and taken into custody by North Riverside police. Charges are pending.

Broken windows

  • Windows were apparently damaged by large rocks between March 4 and March 7 at the Institute in Basic Life Principles, 950 N. Madison St. Nothing appeared to be missing.

  • James R. Pantel, 32, of Beach Park, was arrested about 10:30 p.m. Saturday at County Line Road and 55th Street on a Lake County warrant. Police came into contact with him when they were called to a crash. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
  • Nino Benino, 27, of Aurora, was arrested about 1 a.m. Saturday on an Aurora Police Department warrant. He was stopped after a registration inquiry. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
