Hinsdale Citizens Fire Academy Planned

Residents can learn what it takes to be a career firefighter and paramedic.

HINSDALE, IL — The Hinsdale Fire Department plans to hold its third annual Citizens Fire Academy, which will offer a rare experience to the community on what it takes to be a career firefighter and paramedic in today’s world, according to a news release.

The academy will also provide residents with life and fire safety knowledge. Classes will be held every Thursday night April 23 to May 28 at the Hinsdale Fire Department, 121 Symonds Drive. Each night will be packed with a history of the fire service, hands-on demonstrations that include vehicle extrications, fire suppression, and basic life-saving skills as well as a behind-the-scenes look at life in the firehouse.

To enroll in the Citizens Fire Academy, you must be at least 18 and either live or work in Hinsdale. You can sign up in person at at the fire station, which is near the intersection of Garfield and Chicago avenues. You can also enroll via email by contacting stullis@villageofhinsdale.org.
