Hinsdale And Clarendon Hills See 10% Rises In Virus Cases

Both villages experience more deaths as a result of the coronavirus, county agencies say.

HINSDALE, IL — Both Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills saw 10 percent jumps in the number of coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, according to county health authorities.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale has seen 884 coronavirus cases, up by 79 from a week earlier. The number of Hinsdale cases is more than double that of early October.

Meanwhile, Clarendon Hills reached 493 on Sunday, up 44 from a week before. The total number of cases is nearly three times that of early October.

The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had 46 deaths as a result of the coronavirus, up two from a week earlier, according to county agencies. In Clarendon Hills, the number of virus-related deaths increased to seven, three more than a week before. Hinsdale's number is largely driven by a coronavirus outbreak at ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home earlier in the crisis.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had 50.1 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 43.7 in La Grange Park, 48.6 in Darien, 50.3 in Western Springs, 56.3 in Clarendon Hills, 57.2 in Elmhurst, 57.4 in DuPage County, 61.8 in suburban Cook County, 62.5 in Burr Ridge and 67.9 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 848,904, up 7.8 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 14,291 state residents.

Nationally, 15.9 million people have caught the virus, up 10 percent from the week before. A total of 296,818 people have died from the virus in the United States.
