Hinsdale And Clarendon Hills See Big Virus Rate Hikes

No new deaths are reported in either town. Villages around the area are seeing similar increases.

HINSDALE, IL — The number of coronavirus cases in Hinsdale rose by 12 percent in the last week, according to county health authorities. That was an unusually high percentage increase for the village, but it was lower than nearby towns during the same period.

Meanwhile, Clarendon Hills' cases skyrocketed by 18 percent in the last week.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had 534 virus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 58 from a week before. In Clarendon Hills, the number of cases was 259, up 40 from the previous week.

No figures are available on those cases in which people are considered recovered.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale's and Clarendon Hills' number of coronavirus-related deaths remained at 42 and 2, respectively. The figures have remained the same for weeks. Hinsdale's number is driven by a coronavirus outbreak at ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home earlier in the crisis.

The figure compares to 22.6 in La Grange Park, 24.4 in Darien, 25.5 in Western Springs, 29.6 in Clarendon Hills, 30.4 in Elmhurst, 30.6 in DuPage County, 34.6 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands), 35 in suburban Cook County and 36 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 487,987, up 17 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 10,196 state residents.

Nationally, 9.8 million people have caught the virus, up 8 percent from the week before. A total of 236,547 people have died from the virus in the United States.
