Hinsdale And Clarendon Hills See Lower Hikes In Virus Cases

Both towns' cases have skyrocketed since early October, figures show.

HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills saw lower rates of increase in coronavirus cases in the last week, according to health authorities. This reflects the trend in nearby suburbs.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had seen 670 coronavirus cases since the pandemic's beginning, up 11 percent, or 69 cases, from a week earlier. The number of local cases has skyrocketed by more than 70 percent since early October.

Meanwhile, Clarendon Hills reached 338 cases Sunday, up 13 percent, or 38 cases, from a week earlier. The total number of cases is nearly double that of early October.

The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale's and Clarendon Hills' number of coronavirus-related deaths remained at 42 and 2, respectively. The figures have remained the same for weeks. Hinsdale's number is driven by a coronavirus outbreak at ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home earlier in the crisis.

The figure compares to 32.9 in La Grange Park, 35.2 in Darien, 36.4 in Western Springs, 38.6 in Clarendon Hills, 41.6 in Elmhurst and DuPage County, 46.3 in suburban Cook County, 47 in Burr Ridge and 50.4 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 656,298, up 14.4 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 11,056 state residents.

Nationally, 12 million people have caught the virus, up 11.1 percent from the week before. A total of 255,076 people have died from the virus in the United States.
