Hinsdale And Clarendon Hills See New Virus Deaths

HINSDALE, IL — Both Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills each saw 10 new coronavirus cases in the last week, according to county health authorities. Hinsdale is up to 398, Clarendon Hills to 172, amounting to 3 and 6 percent increases, respectively.

No figures are available on those cases in which people are considered recovered.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale's coronavirus-related deaths numbered 42, up two from a week earlier, while Clarendon Hills experienced its second virus-related death in the last week, according to government numbers.

More than a third of Hinsdale's coronavirus caseload comes from the ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home.

As of Sunday, Hinsdale had 22.6 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 14.7 in La Grange Park, 15 in Darien, 18.2 in Western Springs, 19.7 in Clarendon Hills and DuPage County, 20.4 in Elmhurst, 24.9 in suburban Cook County, 25.5 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands) and 26.4 in Burr Ridge.

While Hinsdale has a hospital in its boundaries — Amita Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale — that would not explain the village's caseload. Coronavirus patients are counted at the place of their residence, not at the hospital where they are admitted, according to the state.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 301,541, up 5 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 8,791 state residents.

Nationally, 7.4 million people have caught the virus, up 4 percent from the week before. A total of 208,821 people have died from the virus in the United States.
