Hinsdale Clothiers to Close Shop, Owner Retires

Hinsdale Clothier's inventory clearance sale opens to the public Oct. 2.

Hinsdale Clothiers on N. York Road is slated to close its doors after an inventory clearance sale, which begins Oct. 2.

Owner Steve Potter had heart surgery in April, according to a news release, and he suffered three strokes after the surgery.

Potter has worked in the men’s clothing business for 45 years. He had been aiming to make it to the 50-year mark, but “he recognizes it’s time to retire, close the store he purchased with a business partner in 1989 and sell his entire inventory in the weeks ahead.”

Everything will be sold, and the Hinsdale Clothiers will be open seven days a week during the sale.

  • Weekdays 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Potter hopes to find new part-time work in retail after Hinsdale Clothiers closes.

“I enjoy taking care of customers and I expect I’ll be someplace where I can do that,” he said in the press release.
