Hinsdale Coronavirus Rate Increases Stabilize
Clarendon Hills sees its smallest hike since mid-June.
HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale's rate of increase in coronavirus cases in the last week is the same as the previous week's — 5 percent. As of Sunday, the village had 257 cases, up by a dozen from a week before, according to health authorities.
Meanwhile, Clarendon Hills saw its caseload increase by two, to 93, its smallest weekly increase since mid-June.
As of Sunday, Hinsdale's number of coronavirus-related deaths remained at 38, authorities say. Clarendon Hills has recorded one virus-related death. Hinsdale's number is likely driven by an outbreak at the ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home.

As of Sunday, Hindale had 14.6 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 8.5 in Darien, 9.5 in Western Springs, 9.7 in La Grange Park, 10.6 in Clarendon Hills, 11.2 in Elmhurst, 12.4 in DuPage County, 15 in Burr Ridge, 17.1 in suburban Cook County and 19.3 in La Grange.
As of Friday, ManorCare Hinsdale nursing home had reported 168 coronavirus cases and 33 related deaths, according to the state Department of Public Health. Those numbers have barely budged in recent weeks. Nursing home numbers include employees who may live in other towns. Such employees are not listed as being from Hinsdale in the case numbers.
While Hinsdale has a hospital in its boundaries — Amita Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale — that would not explain the village's caseload. Coronavirus patients are counted at the place of their residence, not at the hospital where they are admitted, according to the state.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 181,943, up 6 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 7,517 state residents.
Nationally, 4.6 million people have caught the virus and 154,002 have died from it.
