Hinsdale D181 Teachers To Get Pay Raises

HINSDALE, IL – Teachers in Hinsdale School District 181 are in line for pay hikes in an agreement that the school board approved Monday.

The four-year deal begins retroactively to July 1, when the last agreement expired.

Under its terms, teachers are set to get 4 percent and 3.75 percent increases in the first and second years. They also will receive a $2,000 one-time market increase under the agreement.

For the final two years, increases will be aligned with the inflation rate.

According to the Illinois Report Card, District 181 teachers are among the highest-paid in the state.

The average District 181 salary is $94,341, compared to the state average of $73,916. In neighboring Western Springs, the local school district's average salary is $75,548.

District 181, which includes Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills, is in one of the wealthiest areas in Illinois.

Also in the union contract are 6 percent annual pay increases for a teacher's last four years before retirement.

In a joint news release with the district, the union's president, Sarah Hoffman, said the contract reflects a competitive package that rewards teachers for their service.

Superintendent Hector Garcia called the pact a "fair settlement that prioritizes our students and aligns with our fiscal priorities."
