Hinsdale D86 Official 'Wrong' In Superintendent Vote

HINSDALE, IL – Public officials rarely admit they're wrong.

For instance, try to remember the last time that Joe Biden or Donald Trump admitted a mistake in decisions they made.

At a meeting last week, Jeff Waters, a Hinsdale High School District 86 board member, conceded he was wrong in January to vote against Michael Lach as the new superintendent.

Lach took the reins July 1.

At Thursday's board meeting, Waters said he was grateful for Lach's presence.

"I've said it a few times, and I'll say it again. I voted against Dr. Lach. I was the only one to do so," Waters said. "I've quickly learned how inappropriate and inaccurate my vote was. It was largely, as I shared with Dr. Lach, a function of experience."

At the time of his vote, Waters said he was looking for a candidate with experience as a superintendent, which Lach lacked.

"I've been clearly proven wrong," Waters said.

He said Lach's greatest asset was his ability to "communicate aggressively" with all board members and others in the district.

"I do want to thank you for being here," Waters told Lach.
