HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale Township High School District 86 has far more Illinois State Scholars percentage-wise than most districts around the state. On Wednesday, the district announced it has 300 students who were named State Scholars the day before. They were selected for this honor based on their ACT and SAT exams and sixth semester class rank.
Illinois State Scholars are outstanding high school seniors who rank approximately in the top 10 percent of graduates from Illinois high schools. According to a Patch analysis, the Hinsdale district's high schools punch above their weight. The two high schools' combined enrollment makes up seven-tenths of a percent of the state's total high school enrollment. But the 300 State Scholars consist of 1.7 percent of the 17,577 named statewide.
The Illinois Student Assistance Commission is the agency that names the scholars.
