Hinsdale Emergency Main Breaks Cost $38K
The village is paying a private firm. It usually handles such matters in-house.

HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale typically handles water main breaks in-house, but did not do so for four of them last month, according to the village.
On Monday, the Village Board is set to vote on paying La Grange Highlands-based American Municipal Private Plumbing $38,000 for its work last month.
According to a memo, Hinsdale contracts with private firms when breaks are on busy streets where water mains are deeper than usual and when multiple breaks occur within a short time.

Every year, the village obtains hourly rates for emergency work. For this year, the La Grange Highlands firm provided the lowest rates.
According to the village, here are the circumstances for each break that the company repaired:

- Feb. 8 at 154 S. Park Ave.: The village's staff had already repaired breaks Feb. 7 and Feb. 8.
- Feb. 10 at 840 S. Madison St.: It is a high-traffic road, and the water main is deep.
- Feb. 14 at 55th Street and County Line Road: They are high-traffic roads, and the water main is deep.
- Feb. 16 at 55th Street and County Line Road: They are high-traffic roads, and the water main is deep.
